The Estimate Committee of Parliament, in its 47th Report (1967-68), recommended the setting up of a Staff Selection Commission for conducting examinations for recruitment to lower categories of posts. Subsequently an Examination Wing was initially added to the Secretariat Training School, renamed as the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management ( ISTM). The Government of India decided to constitute a Subordinate Services Commission under an Executive Resolution in pursuance of the recommendations made by the Administration Reforms Commission (ARC). The Commission manages requirements of non-technical posts by different Departments and selection of personnel either by joint recruitment or through a recruitment board. The Subordinate Services Commission was established under Government of India in the year 1975. It was later renamed as Staff Selection Commission. Later new constitution and functions of the Staff Selection Commission came into effect in the year 1999. The Staff Selection Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training and comprises of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations who are appointed on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the Central Government. The Staff Selection Commission makes recruitment to non-technical group ‘C’ and group ‘B’ non gazetted posts in Ministries/ Departments, the attached and subordinate offices of the Government of India and the C.A.G and the offices of the Accountant General.
SSC Combined level Graduate Exam
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Prelims Exam once a year for selection of candidates for the main Examination. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) covers most of the group 'B' services, group 'C' services and other posts in various ministries. SSC offers close to 30,000 Central Government jobs each year. SSC CGL aspirants should start their preparations for CGL examination as early as possible in order to ensure a high profile jobs in government sector. The best way for preparations is going through your old Mathematics test books from 8th standard to 12thstandard, which will give you good score especially from the portions of Geometry and Trigonometry . Aspirants should also make it a habit to read at least one good newspaper daily give you good knowledge in current affairs. Also School level grammar books will be useful for preparation.
